Our History

Effective January 1, 2019, the healthcare staffing division of A-1 CAREERS has been incorporated as a separate company, A-1 Medical Staffing, with locations in Des Moines and Bettendorf, Iowa. Bruce J. Putman, owner of A-1 CAREERS, continues to be the majority owner of the new company, and Amy Sheaffer, Vice-President & General Manager, is also now an owner of A-1 Medical Staffing.  A-1 CAREERS moves forward with growth plans for staffing in the Finance & Accounting and Office Support niches in Kansas City, Denver and the surrounding area.

Bruce J. Putman founded A-1 Staffing in 1998, A-1 CAREERS in 2000 and A-1 CAREERS' healthcare division, now A-1 Medical Staffing in 2010. 

Amy Sheaffer, Vice President & General Manager, CHP


 Amy began her career in staffing in 2007 working in direct care. She later became a Recruiter and today leads our Iowa and Illinois teams.  

Vickie Trigg, Director - Operations & Administration


Vickie has a strong background in finance, operations, computers, compliance and training; which blends well with her current role. 

Heather Foster, Branch Supervisor, CTS


Heather started with us in 2012 specializing in after hours customer service. She advanced into a Recruiter role and now leads our Des Moines branch. 

Brittany Littlefield, Branch Supervisor, CTS


Brittany began her career in staffing in 2015 as a management trainee while finishing her Master's Degree. She now leads our Quad Cities branch.

Cheryl Charlton, Account Manager


Cheryl joined us in 2017 after attending school for healthcare administration. She quickly advanced into recruiting and now manages accounts.
